Make A Splash In The Bathroom (On A Budget)

You don’t have to splash the cash to give your bathroom a makeover. As one of the smallest rooms in your house you can make a big difference with just a small amount of investment. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

The walls

A lick of paint will give a new lease of life to grubby-looking walls. White is a firm favourite, but why not get creative? A bold, bright colour on one wall – or all walls – will give the whole room a fresh new feel, try to avoid deep or darker colours however vibrant as they will make the room feel smaller which is rarely the desired look. If your budget won’t stretch to a pot of paint then try some good old-fashioned elbow grease instead – giving your walls a good scrub will have them looking cleaner and brighter instantly.

Tiling the area directly above your basin or bath is considerably cheaper than tiling an entire wall, tiles make a great splashback and are easy to keep clean. This is also an easy way of adding a splash of colour or stamping your identity on a room.

The floor

Updating the flooring in a small bathroom doesn’t have to be that expensive. If you have a limited budget, affordable options include vinyl or tiles, with a never-ending choice of patterns, colours and sizes. Look online for advice about how to lay the flooring yourself to avoid the hefty price tag that most fitters come with, this could be higher than the cost of the materials themselves.

The taps

Old taps can make your bathroom look very dated and quite frankly give it a tired look. New taps come in a variety of different styles and at a range of prices. If you like the traditional style of taps you will still be able to find these as they continue to prove a popular choice. When buying on a budget make sure you are buying the right taps to fit the holes in your basin or bath, despite these being fairly standardised it is worth double checking before purchasing.

The shower

Fitting a new shower unit is not always a cost-friendly option, but replacing a shower head is. Easy to fit and just as kind on the wallet, a new shower head can make all the difference to the power of your shower. Why not treat yourself, replacing a tired-looking shower curtain will complete the look at a minimal cost, there are a wide range of stylish bath screens available to accompany most baths.

The extras

Along with these suggestions you could also add a new set of fluffy towels and bath mats as these will add instant luxury to your bathroom, the bolder and brighter the better with these!
